Thursday 6th February Spanish Copa del Rey Preview

It’s the second batch of Copa de Rey Quarter-Finals this evening and we will be looking at who will be joining Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the last four. 

The first of tonight’s games comes from the Reale Arena where Real Sociedad welcome Osasuna, the last two times these teams have met its been Osasuna that have come off better, Sociedad lost 0-2 here and then only last week they lost 2-1 away from home. Coach Imonol Barrenetxea’s side have lost their last three matches in La Liga meaning they have slipped to 11th below Osasuna, with this being a cup match anything can happen.

The visitors Osasuna sit in 8th in the table and only a couple of points off the top 6 in La Liga, Vicente Moreno’s side arrive into this match unbeaten in three matches in the league. They have drawn 1-1 at home to Rayo Vallecano, 1-1 away to Las Palmas and then most recently a 2-1 victory at home to Real Sociedad. 

In the previous round they caused an upset beating Athletic Bilbao 3-2 at the San Mames Stadium so they will look to overcome the odds as underdogs tonight. Kick off 6.30pm.

The second game tonight comes from the Mestalla where Valencia host Barcelona, Carlos Corberan’s side went through December which has found them within relegation zone and 4 pts from safety. They have won two of their last three matches both at home to Real Sociedad (1-0) and Celta Vigo (2-1). The priority would be staying in the top flight of Spanish football but they aren’t far away now from a chance of Silverware.

The visitors Barcelona are 3rd in La Liga and 4 pts off top spot Real Madrid, Hans-Dieter Flick’s side are unbeaten in 2025 in all competitions. In the league they have drawn 1-1 away to Getafe, then beat Valencia 7-1 and Alaves 1-0 both at the Camp Nou. Robert Lewandowski has scored 18 so far this season and Raphina 12 so Valencia will struggle to keep the flood gates from opening, even with the home advantage. 

The last ten times head to heads between these teams Barcelona have won 8 and drawn 2 so can Valencia break their duck this time. Kick off 8.30pm.
