Saturday 15th February Graded Horse Races At Wincanton and Haydock

We have some more top quality races televised this Saturday the first we will look at comes from Wincanton.

1.36pm BetMGM Kingwell Hurdle Grade 2 1m 7f

Heading the entries for this is Burdett Road trained by James Owen, this 5yo gelding has had a been had a summer on the flat again last year after missing the Cheltenham Festival last year due to a setback where he picked up a Listed race at Newmarket winning at 10/1. 

The Gredley Family owned gelding made his NH reappearance at the Cheltenham November meeting winning the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle making all of the running to hold off the challenge of Be Aware by ½ length. He reappeared again at Kempton on Boxing Day where he was found wanted against Constitution Hill and Lossiemouth but this is much calmer waters here on a flat track that will suit this flat bred horse. 

Next to look at is Golden Ace, this 7yo mare trained by Jeremy Scott hasn’t got her head in front so far this season. She started her campaign over two and a half miles at Ascot where she didn’t look to have stayed beaten by Lucky Place finishing 4th, she then locked horns again with the latter on New Year’s Day where she was beaten again.  She has yet to recapture her form of last season’s Mares Novice Hurdle where she beat Betterdaysahead but the drop back in trip here could help.

The last one for us to look at is Nemean Lion trained by Kerry Lee, this 8yo gelding won the race last year so will look to hold on to his crown. He will come into this race on the back of two victories at Hereford and more recently a nice pot at Windsor where he loved the soft ground to lead on the run-in. He will have to carry a penalty which is 10lb more than rival Gold Ace.

This £41000 race looks to be a above standard renewal this year.

We have some good racing at Haydock Saturday with The Grand National Trial three and a half times alongside the Rendlesham Hurdle. We will look at the latter in this article.

2.40pm WKD Rendlesham Hurdle Grade 2 3m ½  f

Heading the entries for this is Botox Has trained by Gary and Josh Moore, this 9yo gelding is looking to win the race again this year. He’s not found his form yet this season looking very laboured when running in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot and then more recently finishing 3rd of six in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham last month. He’s won nearly 300k in prize money over his career but has he now fallen out of love with the game?

Next for us to look at is Beauport trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, this 9yo gelding is a out and out stayer who won last season Midlands National over 4m 2f as well as the Berkshire National over 3m 5f at Ascot By 31 lengths. He had his first run over the smaller obstacles for a while when finishing 3rd in the Long Walk Hurdle at the Berkshire track where he made the running and lack of race fitness took its toll getting headed in the final 110yds. He will no doubt look to make the running in this race and make it a real test of stamina.

The last entry we will look at is Sounds Russian trained by Ruth Jefferson, this 10yo gelding won a Listed Hurdle over 3m at Perth in April winning readily from the Willie Mullins trained Loughglynn by three lengths. It will be hard to know if he will be 100% fit for his first run of the season but the market is your best idea.
