Saturday 22nd February Lunchtime Championship Football Matches

We have three early kick offs in Championship on Saturday the first we will look at comes from Pride Park where Derby host Millwall, John Eustace’s side are 22nd in the table but just one point away separates them from safety out of the relegation zone. They haven’t won a game since Boxing Day when they beat West Brom here 2-1, since then they have picked up just two points against Norwich (1-1) and Oxford (0-0). When the two sides met at the Den it ended 1-1 with both goals coming in the latter stages of the game.

The visitors Millwall are 13 pts ahead of Derby and sit in 14th place currently, Alex Neil’s side put a three game winning run together at the end of January but their last three Championship games have ending in a defeat away to Plymouth (5-1), then two draws at home to West Brom and away to Preston both ending 1-1. Neil’s side have an away trip to Crystal Palace in the 5th round of the FA Cup to look forward to next month. Kick off 12.30pm Live on Sky Sports.

The next fixture to look at comes from the Stadium of Light where Sunderland host Hull, Regis Le Bris’s side are a clear 4th in the league and look certain to be in the play off positions come the end of the season. The homeside’s eight game unbeaten run in the league came to an end this week when a 1-0 lead slipped away to top of the table Leeds losing the game 2-1. 

They remain unbeaten at home this season winning ten and drawing six so Regis Bris would like to complete the home and away double over Hull after they beat them 1-0 earlier in the season.

The visitors Hull are 21st in the league and only one point above the drop zone as it stands, Ruben Selles side have lost two and drawn one of the last three games. They suffered defeat at home to Stoke (1-2) and away to Burnley (2-0) then they picked up a point at home to Norwich (1-1). The next game for them is away to Cardiff who are amongst the fight to stay in the league so points here and next week will help their survival chance. Kick off 12.30pm.

The last of the lunchtime games comes from Home Park where Plymouth host Cardiff, Miron Muslic’s side knocked Liverpool out of the fourth round of the FA Cup to set up a visit to Man City in the next round. In the league they are in 23rd and in a relegation battle but the next two games are massive for them as they have Luton this evening and also Cardiff Saturday, both of them are towards the drop zone. 

Muslic’s side put two home victories together beating West Brom (2-1) and also Millwall (5-1) before getting beat to promotion contenders Blackburn (2-0). 

The visitors Cardiff are 20th in the table at the moment, Omer Riza’s side have lost two and drawn one of their last three games. They lost away to Leeds (7-0), lost away to Portsmouth (2-1) and then got a point at home to Bristol City (1-1). They have got a visit to Villa Park for a 5th round tie to Aston Villa in the FA Cup. When the two sides met earlier in the season it ended 5-0 to Cardiff but we can’t see it being as one sided here.
