Friday 31st January Televised Football Preview

We have your Friday evenings entertainment covered for you football fans as we have three televised games across Europe to look at the first coming from Ewood Park where Blackburn welcome Preston for a Lancashire Derby. 

John Eustace’s side are pushing for promotion and will jump into the playoff places with a win at home, they currently sit in 7th but only two points out of the top six. They aren’t in the best of form with only one victory in their last nine games in the league. This is a perfect opportunity to bounce back against their local rivals. The homesides FA Cup run is still intact with a fourth round tie against Wolves which is at Ewood Park.

The visitors are currently in 15th in the Championship but have won their last two games away at Watford (1-2) and more recently at home to Middlesbrough (2-1). They have also made it through to the FA Cup fourth round to play Wycombe. We can expect a close game here as when the two played at Deepdale earlier in the season it ended 0-0 but both sides finished with ten men. Kick off 8pm Live on Sky Sports.

The next games comes from La Liga where Leganes host Rayo Vallecano, the homeside are currently in 16th in the table and three points away from the relegation zone so they would welcome a win here. Borja Jimenez’s side are unbeaten in their last three league games drawing away to Espanyol (1-1) and Athletic Bilbao (0-0) as well as a victory at home to Atletico Madrid (1-0) inbetween. 

They managed to get a shock 1-0 win at the Nou Camp last month so although it wouldn’t be as much of a shock result here they are the outsiders in this match.  

The visitors Rayo Vallecano sit in 7th in La Liga and only a point out of the Europa League places at the halfway stage of the season, Inigo Perez’s side has drawn their last three league games away from home 1-1 to Villareal, Real Betis and Osasuna. The last time the two sides met was at Rayo Vallecano’s ground where it ended 1-1 so this is going to be a very tight game that could quite easily end in a draw again. Kick off 8pm Live on Premier Sports.

The last game of the evening’s action comes from the Bundesliga where Werder Bremen host Mainz at the Weserstadion, the homeside are currently in 9th and four points behind their opponents. Ole Werner’s side haven’t won in their last four league games, drawing two and losing two. They have scored seven goals in those but conceded eleven which has been their problem. Werder Bremen will look to get the home and away double as they won 2-1 away at Mainz earlier in the season.

The visitors currently sit in 6th in the league with Bo Henriksen side winning seven and losing three of their last ten games in the Bundesliga. The three losses came away from home so they will try and put a stop to that statistic on Friday evening.
