The switch over for the UK National Lottery is now complete. The old system which has been used since 2009 has had an upgrade which is being dubbed as the biggest tech switch in lottery history now runs across 43,500 retailers. The new system is called “Momentum”.

The system called Momentum powers lotteries in Europe, North America and Oceania. The transition happened at the beginning of August which shut down the old lottery systems but within a few hours retailers were back selling tickets.

Allwyn who took over the National Lottery says the upgrade will bring customers new games with a better digital experience. On top of that it means more money for good causes. There are more improvements planned for the future with a full rollout of Wave terminals and updated online services.

The company may be feeling the wrath of the Gambling Commission as they have missed some licensing milestones which included the ticket price cuts to £1 from the original £2. There are formal discussions with the regulator ongoing as the promises are currently on hold.
