We have just the two games from the top flight of English football on Sunday, the first coming from St James’ Park where Newcastle host Nottingham Forest. Eddie Howe’s side have slipped to 7th in the league after two consecutive losses in the Premiership, they lost at home to Fulham (1-2) and then away at Man City (4-0). In Between those defeats they won two cup games beating Arsenal in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final 2-0 to set up a trip to Wembley against Liverpool and then also a FA Cup fourth round victory away to Birmingham 3-2.
Howe will hope that they can get back on track in the league with a home victory here, they have lost their last two in front of their home fans in the Premiership.
The visitors Nottingham Forest are six points ahead of their opponents in 3rd and pushing for European football next season. Nuno Santos was left frustrated after the 2-1 defeat away to Fulham last weekend, he thought his side deserved to get something from the game but instead it meant Forest have lost their last two games away from home after a 5-0 thrashing to Bournemouth previously.
Both sides have the potential to score goals here with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak netting 17 so far and Forest’s Chris Wood netting 18 so far this campaign. Kick off 2pm Live on Sky Sports.

The second game of the day comes from the Etihad where Man City host league leaders Liverpool, Pep Guardiola’s side moved up to 4th in the table after a victory at home to Newcastle last weekend (4-0). They will arrive into this game after a tough second leg tie to Real Madrid Wednesday so it will be a question of how they react after a win or defeat in Madrid.
Pep’s side have had some tough fixtures recently, they beat Chelsea at home (3-1), lost away to Arsenal (5-1) and then the victory against Newcastle we’ve spoken about. This will be a big opportunity to really show Liverpool that the loss at Anfield earlier in the season where they lost 2-0 was a bad day at the office and the new January signing Omar Marmoush is expected to keep his starting eleven position.
The visitors Liverpool are seven points clear at the top but that could stretch with a victory midweek to Villa, Arne Slot’s side were disappointed to drop points against rivals Everton last week. The Toffees scored an injury time equaliser to make it 2-2 but they didn’t dwell as they bounced back with a win at home to struggling Wolves at Anfield (2-1).
We expect Diogo Jota and also Mohammed Salah to lead the line for Slot’s side, the latter is leading the Golden Boot with 23 goals so far this season. When the two sides met in December he scored from the spot to make it 2-0 for his team. We can see this game having a few goals in it but which side will come out on top? Kick off 4.30pm Live on Sky Sports.
