Saturday 8th February Six Nations Rugby Preview

We had the start of the Six Nations last weekend so in this article we will look into Saturday’s two matches, the first being from Stadio Olimpico where Italy hosted Wales. 

When the two sides met in last year’s competition it was Italy who came off better, they took a 11-0 advantage going into the break before scoring an early try and conversion in the second half to go 18-0 ahead. The Welsh side tried to make a comeback at the Principality Stadium but the match finished 21-24. 

Italy didn’t get their Six Nations for this year off to a good start, they lost 31-19 to Scotland having to always chase the game after conceding two early tries. Gonzalo Quesada will hope to get his side’s first victory in this year’s event.

Their opponents Wales didn’t have the best start to their 2025 Six Nations, Warren Gatland’s side lost 43-0 to France meaning their losing run stretches to 12 matches in all competitions. This should be a more competitive match but you’d have to question the Welsh side’s confidence. One stat in the favour of Wales is the last ten times the two sides have met Wales have won 8 and Italy 2. Kick off 2.15pm Live on ITV.

The second game on Saturday comes from Twickenham where England host France, Steve Borthwick side lost their first game to Ireland 27-22 after starting the game positively before the Irish turned the screw in the second half. The last time these two met in last year’s Six Nations it was England that came off worst losing 33-31.

The visitors France and Fabien Galthie had a great start to their Six Nations campaign beating Wales 43-0 albeit having Romain N’tamack sent off in the 70th minute. The French have beaten England the last three times they have met so the Six Nations favourites will look to stamp their authority on this match from the beginning and stretch their unbeaten match run to five on the bounce in all competitions. Kick off 4.45pm Live on ITV.
