Man City vs Man United (Sunday 15th December 2024)
Man United performed a massive comeback in the Manchester Derby at the weekend after going in 1-0 down at the break due to a first half header by Josko Gvardiol from a corner yet again United seem to be making a habit of conceding from corners.
Bruno Fernandes had United’s first main chance of the game when he was played through by Rasmus Hojlund but his ding over Ederson bounced wide.
Amad won a penalty with 5 minutes to go after he was brought down by Matheus Nunes. Bruno Fernandez stepped up and converted from the spot to bring United level before Amad completed the comeback with a 90th minute goal to give United the lead.
Ruben Amorim made a bold decision to drop Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho which left United with limited options on the bench and starting two full backs on the wings which blunted United. After spending 150 million on defenders trying to replace Harry Maguire he was the best of them in today’s Derby.
Man City just shaded the possession with 52% but only three shots on target for each team shows it was a very tight game. Amorim went there with intent to get something from the game and ended up coming away with all three points.
There was a lot of speculation that there was something in training that he didn’t like from Rashford and Garnacho, the lack of communication between other teammates as well as not showing much energy for which you need in big games.
Although United came away with all three points there was little going forward with only three shots on target from each club and Fernandez having United’s best chance outside of their two goals. With the January transfer market only around the corner we wouldn’t be surprised to see some movement to get both teams back to form.
