This year Horse Racing enthusiasts have no fewer than nine meetings on Boxing Day. We will give you a run down of each one but going into more detail of the bigger prize money races.
We will look at Kempton where we have three Grade 1 races, we have the Ladbrokes King George Chase run over three miles (£142k to the winner). As it stands Willie Mullins is set to bring his 7yo Gaelic Warrior over the water, the gelding has already won a Grade 1 event this season. Mullins’s horse has no issues getting the distance on a flat track such as Kempton having won on a similar track last season when winning the Aintree Bowl over 3m 1f. We expect him to line up as favourite but he will face last season’s Arkle winner Jango Baie. Nicky Henderson’s 6yo started his season with a bang taking the Ladbrokes 1965 Chase at Ascot last month impressively. The sound jumper is having his second season over the larger obstacles but albeit yet to run over this far, stamina won’t be an issue.
Another exciting candidate for this race is the Harry Redknapp owned The Jukebox Man, this 7yo won the Kauto Star Novice Chase on this day last year impressively. He went into many notebooks for the Cheltenham festival but an injury ruled him out for the rest of the season. Ben Paulings gelding returned to action on Haydock Betfair Chase card where he won a Graduation Chase over 2m 5f beating JP McManus’s Iroko by two and a half lengths. This is an extremely exciting horse for the future so if his trainer can keep him injury free a long term target would likely be the Ryanair Chase in March. We can’t forget last year’s race winner Banbridge for Joseph O’Brien, the 9yo gelding has accumulated over half a million in prize money in his racing career.

The other Grade 1 races on the card are the Kauto Star Novice Chase which always produces an exciting star for the future, this is run over three miles. The third Grade 1 race of the meeting is the Christmas Hurdle over two miles. Last year’s race was won by Nicky Henderson’s Constitution Hill who beat Lossiemouth from the Willie Mullin’s stable. Potential runners for those two races have yet to be announced but keep your eyes peeled for betting markets at (website).
