COTT SWANS IN TO MAKE WALES CASE
AWANSEA 2 PRESTON 0
Swansea hero David Cotterill has set his sights on becoming a Wales regular after his super show against Preston. [>
[>
Cotterill, 22, made his Wales debut five years ago but has failed to establish himself in John Toshack’s side.[>
[>
The former Wigan and Sheffield United man is hoping the move back to his native South Wales will revive his international career.[>
[>
Cotterill, who moved to Swansea in a £600,000 deal last month, hit a stunning free-kick before setting up Ashley Williams for the second against Preston. [>
[>
[>
He said: “I want to be a part of the Wales side and that’s one of the reasons I came to Swansea. I’ve had enough of being a bit-part player. I want to be involved on a regular basis.[>
[>
“I’m desperate to play for my country, but I can only do that if I’m doing well for my club. [>
[>
“I wasn’t in the manager’s plans at Sheffield United and I was in danger of not getting called up by Wales.[>
“John Toshack made it clear he wanted me playing week in, week out.”[>
[>
Cotterill has won 15 caps but has made only one start – against Trinidad and Tobago four years ago.[>
[>
“I spoke to John Toshack when Swansea made their offer and he told me it would be a good move,” he added.[>
“When the manager of Wales gives you his opinion, you’ve got to take notice.[>
[>
“The next international is against Sweden at the Liberty Stadium and it would be brilliant to be involved.[>
[>
“We’ve got a good young squad and I think the next qualifying campaign is going to be exciting for us. I want to be a part of it.”[>
[>
Cotterill netted his second goal for the Swans in the 35th minute, curling his free-kick over the wall.[>
[>
Just after the break Williams headed home his free-kick and Cotterill left to a standing ovation when he was replaced by Tom Butler.[>
[>
He said: “We dominated the game from start to finish. I was pleased with my goal. [>
[>
“We were practising free-kicks on Friday and Tom Butler said I was going to score against Preston, so it was nice to put one in!”[>
